How do I get a duplicate title in California?

If the vehicle was last titled in California

1. Download and fill out the California Duplicate Title Application REG 227form
2. Submit the application
   • In person at the Department of Motor Vehicles
     • Time frame: 2-6 weeks
     • Cost to obtain: $27
   • By mailing the application to:

If the vehicle was last titled outside of California

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
