How do I get a duplicate title in North Carolina?

If the vehicle was last titled in North Carolina

1. Download and fill out the North Carolina Duplicate Title Application
2. Submit the application
   • In person at the Division of Motor Vehicles
     • Time frame: 15 business days
     • Cost to obtain: $21.50
   • By mailing the application to:

     • Time frame: 15 business days

If the vehicle was last titled outside of North Carolina

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
