How do I get a duplicate title in Virginia?

If the vehicle was last titled in Virginia

1. Download and fill out the Virginia Duplicate Title Application
2. Submit the application
   • Online at the Department of Motor Vehicles
     • Time frame: 5 weeks
     • Cost to obtain: $14
   • In person at the Department of Motor Vehicles
     • Time frame: Same day
     • Cost to obtain $15
   • By mailing the application to:
   • Virginia DMV
     Titling Department

     Richmond, VA 23269
     • Time frame: 5 weeks
     • Cost to obtain: $15

If the vehicle was last titled outside of Virginia

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
