How do I get a duplicate title in South Dakota?

If the vehicle was last titled in South Dakota

1. Download and fill out the South Dakota Duplicate Title Application
2. Submit the application
   • In person at the County Treasurer’s Office
     • Time frame: 5-10 business days
     • Cost to obtain: $10
   • By mailing the application to:
   • Motor Vehicle Division
     Duplicate Title Section

     Pierre, SD, 57501
     • Time frame: 5-10 business days
     • Cost to obtain: $10

If the vehicle was last titled outside of South Dakota

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
