How do I get a duplicate title in New York?

If the vehicle was last titled in New York

1. Download and fill out the New York Duplicate Title Application
2. Submit the application
   • Online at the Department of Motor Vehicles
     • Time frame: 2-3 business days
     • Cost to obtain: $20
   • In person at the Department of Motor Vehicles
     • Time frame: 5-7 business days
     • Cost to obtain: $20
   • By mailing the application to:
   • New York State Department of Motor Vehicles

     Albany, NY 12220-0750
     • Time frame: 6-8 weeks
     • Cost to obtain: $20

If the vehicle was last titled outside of New York

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
