How do I get a duplicate title in Alabama?

If the vehicle was last titled in Alabama

The registered owner must complete the following steps:

1. Download and fill out the Alabama Duplicate Title Application
2. Submit the application
   • Online through the Motor Vehicle Division
     • Time frame: 7-14 business days
     • Cost to obtain: $15
   • In person at the Motor Vehicle Division
     • Time frame: 7-14 business days
     • Cost to obtain: $15
   • By mailing the application to: Alabama Department of Revenue

     • Time frame: 4-6 weeks
     • Cost to obtain: $15

If the vehicle was last titled outside of Alabama

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
